About Nuuk
Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, is the smallest capital in the world located in one of the largest and sparsely populated regions on Earth. The city by the Nuuk Fjord offers a fascinating mix of modern Scandinavian architecture, Inuit culture, and Arctic wilderness right at your doorstep. The colorful houses of Nuuk — red, yellow, blue, green — stand in contrast to the barren Arctic landscape. The Greenland National Museum houses the famous Qilakitsoq mummies (500-year-old Inuit mummies, perfectly preserved in permafrost) and tells the story of the Inuit from the Thule culture to the present day. The Nuuk Fjord is spectacular: Icebergs drift through turquoise waters, humpback whales appear between June and November, and the Northern Lights dance across the sky from September to April. A boat tour through the fjord with its glaciers and abandoned Viking settlements is unforgettable. Nuuk is also the culinary center of Greenland: The restaurant Sarfalik offers New Nordic Cuisine with Arctic ingredients such as musk ox, seal, icefish, and wild berries. Koloniehavn, Nuuk's oldest district, preserves the history of Danish colonization with historic buildings from the 18th century.
