About Nanyang

Nanyang is a million-inhabitant city in the southwest of Henan Province and is one of the oldest cultural cities in China. The city is especially known as the birthplace of the legendary strategist Zhuge Liang, who was considered one of the brightest minds in Chinese history during the Three Kingdoms period (3rd century). His former residence, the Wollonggang Memorial, is a significant pilgrimage site for history enthusiasts. Nanyang is a globally significant site for dinosaur fossils and eggs. The Nanyang Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site is one of the largest of its kind and has been proposed for the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the Dinosaur Egg Museum, visitors can admire thousands of fossilized eggs and skeletons. The Nanyang Han Painting Museum houses a unique collection of stone reliefs from the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD), depicting scenes from daily life, mythology, and wars. The stone reliefs are among the most valuable cultural treasures of Henan. The Baotianman Nature Park south of the city is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with a diverse mountain forest, rare plants, and an elevation of over 1,800 meters. In spring, the famous Nanyang peonies bloom here, which have been cultivated for centuries and are among the most beautiful in China.
