About St. Lucia
St. Lucia is the most dramatic island in the Caribbean – a volcanic masterpiece that spectacularly rises from the sea and boasts the world-famous Pitons, two of the most iconic landmarks in the entire region. These two conical volcanic peaks, Gros Piton (770 m) and Petit Piton (743 m), rise steeply from the turquoise waters and form a UNESCO World Heritage site that is a must-see on any Caribbean trip. The view from the bay between the Pitons, whether from the beach, a boat, or one of the luxurious infinity pools of the hillside hotels, is simply breathtaking. St. Lucia offers something that can only be found here in the Caribbean: a walk-in volcanic crater. The Sulphur Springs Drive-In Volcano in Soufrière steams and bubbles with sulfur-yellow fumaroles and hot mud springs, where one can take a natural mud bath that is said to rejuvenate the skin by years. Nearby are the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens with tropical plants and a waterfall whose mineral water makes the rocks shimmer in various colors. For German travelers, there are no direct flights to St. Lucia. The journey is made via London, Miami, or the neighboring island of Barbados, with a total travel time of 12 to 15 hours. Germans do not need a visa for stays of up to 42 days. The time difference is minus 5 to 6 hours. St. Lucia has established itself as a luxury and honeymoon destination but also offers wonderful guesthouses and charming boutique hotels for normal budgets. The island combines beaches, mountains, rainforests, volcanoes, and a vibrant Creole culture in a compact space – more variety in 617 square kilometers is hardly possible.
