The Four Seasons

Spring (April–May): Blossoms & Rose Fragrance

Spring is the most beautiful time for cultural trips and hikes in the lowlands. Temperatures rise to 15–25°C, nature bursts into bloom, and the rose fields in the Valley of Roses begin to scent. Plovdiv, Sofia, and Veliko Tarnovo are pleasantly warm, without the summer heat. The coast slowly awakens — swimming is possible from the end of May.

Summer (June–September): Beach Time & Mountain Hiking

High season on the Black Sea coast: 28–33°C air temperature, water temperatures around 24–27°C. Sunny Beach and Golden Sands are full of life, Sozopol and Nessebar offer more charming alternatives. The mountains provide ideal hiking conditions (15–25°C). July and August are the hottest and most expensive months. June and September offer the best balance of weather, prices, and visitor numbers.

Autumn (October–November): Harvest & Golden Forests

The autumn colors in the Rhodopes and the Balkan Mountains are spectacular. October is ideal for wine tours in Thrace, mountain hikes, and city trips. Prices drop, tourists disappear. November becomes cool (8–15°C), but still pleasant for cultural trips.

Winter (December–March): Ski Slopes & Thermal Springs

Bulgaria's ski resorts Bansko, Borovets, and Pamporovo offer affordable winter sports — ski passes cost a third of the Alpine prices. Snow covers the mountains from December to April. Sofia is wintery cold (-5 to 5°C), the coast mild (5–10°C). Tip: Thermal springs in Velingrad or Hisarya are the perfect contrast to the cold winter weather.
