About La Digue
La Digue is the smallest of the three main islands of Seychelles and has the most photographed beach in the world, Anse Source d'Argent. Huge, sculptural granite rocks in warm red tones frame powdery white sand and shallow turquoise water — a natural artwork that graces every Seychelles calendar. The island has only 3,000 inhabitants and hardly any cars: the main mode of transport is the bicycle, which gives La Digue a unique tranquility. In 20 minutes, you can cycle across the island, passing vanilla plantations, colonial coconut farms, and Creole wooden houses under breadfruit trees. L'Union Estate — a historical coconut plantation from the colonial era — showcases traditional copra production with ox carts and is home to free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises. From here, the path leads to Anse Source d'Argent. The Grand Anse on the east side offers wild waves and deserted expanses. La Digue is one of the last habitats of the extremely rare Seychelles Paradise Flycatcher (only about 400 specimens left). The Veuve Reserve in the interior of the island protects this endemic bird. The atmosphere on La Digue is that of a tropical village — far removed from luxury resorts, yet full of authentic island charm.
