About Changchun
Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province in Northeast China, carries the nickname "City of Spring" — an ironic name for a metropolis where winters are notoriously cold and temperatures can drop to minus 30 °C. The city is primarily known as the former capital of Manchukuo, the Japanese puppet state that existed from 1932 to 1945. The Puppet Emperor's Palace is the most significant historical building: Here resided Puyi, the last emperor of China, as a puppet of Japan. The palace showcases Puyi's tragic life between imperial splendor and political powerlessness — made famous by Bernardo Bertolucci's film "The Last Emperor." Changchun is China's automobile city: The First Automobile Works (FAW), China's oldest automobile manufacturer, was founded here in 1953. The FAW Automobile Museum documents the history of the Chinese automotive industry. Additionally, Changchun is home to the Changchun Film Studios, China's oldest film studios (1945), often referred to as the "Hollywood of the East." Nanhu Park (South Lake Park) is a green oasis in summer and a skating paradise in winter. The Jingyütan National Forest Park on the outskirts offers skiing in winter and hiking in summer. Changchun's extreme seasons make the city a place of contrasts: green summers with 28 °C and icy winters with ice festivals.
