About Changshu

Changshu is a historical cultural city in Jiangsu Province, nestled in the fertile plain of the Yangtze Delta between Shanghai and Nanjing. The name literally means "always ripe" and refers to the extraordinary fertility of the region — rice has been cultivated here uninterrupted for over 3,000 years. Yushan (Yüberg) rises 263 meters above the flat delta landscape and is the city's landmark. Historical temples, pavilions, and gardens are scattered on and around the mountain — including the Xingfu Temple from the Sui Dynasty and the Yan Garden (Yangyuan), one of the most beautiful classical gardens in Jiangnan with artfully designed ponds, bridges, and rock formations. Shang Hu Lake at the foot of Yushan is a popular recreational area with boat rides, promenades, and traditional tea houses. In spring, the shores transform into a sea of cherry blossoms and lotus flowers. Changshu is a cradle of Chinese scholar culture: the city has produced numerous poets, calligraphers, and musicians. The Guqin art (traditional Chinese zither) has a special tradition here — the Changshu Guqin style is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of China. The old town, with its canals, stone bridges, and alleys, conveys an authentic picture of Jiangnan water culture.
