About Daqing

Daqing is the oil capital of China and is located in the vast plain of Heilongjiang Province in the northeast of the country. The city owes its existence to the discovery of China's largest oil field in 1959 — an event that changed the entire history of Chinese industry. The name Daqing means "Great Celebration" and was given in honor of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Museum tells the story of the legendary oil worker Wang Jinxi, who built up oil production under extreme conditions in the 1960s and became a national hero. His motto "Better to live three years less than to give up the oil field" shaped a whole generation of Chinese workers. The museum is a fascinating testament to socialist industrial culture. The Zhalong Nature Reserve north of Daqing is one of the most important wetlands in Asia and is home to one of the largest populations of the endangered Manchurian crane (Red-crowned crane). Over 260 bird species live in this Ramsar wetland, and in summer visitors can observe the elegant cranes up close — an unforgettable natural spectacle. Daqing surprises with extensive wetlands and lakes: The Longfeng Wetland Landscape in the middle of the city is an urban nature paradise with lotus lakes and birdwatching. The Lianhua Hot Springs offer hot baths amidst the cold winters of Manchuria, and in summer the endless grasslands of the Songnen Plain transform into a green sea.
