About Lu'an

Lu'an is a prefecture-level city in the west of Anhui Province at the northern foot of the Dabie Mountains and is one of the most historically significant regions in central China. The city is particularly known as the home of Lu'an Guapian (melon seed tea) — one of the ten most famous teas in China and the only green tea made exclusively from single leaves without buds. The Dabie Mountains (Dabie Shan) south of the city are a natural paradise with subtropical forests, waterfalls, and rich biodiversity. The Tiantangzhai National Park (Sky Fortress) in the heart of the mountains offers spectacular peaks up to 1,729 meters, deep gorges, and suspension bridges over misty forests — often referred to as the "little Huangshan." Lu'an has played a significant role in Chinese revolutionary history: the Dabie Mountains were one of the most important bases of the Red Army during the Civil War. Numerous memorials and museums, including the Jinzhai Revolutionary Museum, commemorate the victims and struggles of this era. Jinzhai County produced more generals of the People's Liberation Army than any other county in China. The Foziling and Meishan reservoirs, built in the 1950s, are impressive structures and today popular recreational areas with emerald green water amidst wooded mountains. Boat tours and hikes around the reservoirs offer tranquility and a nature experience away from the tourist crowds.
