About Maoming

Maoming is located in the southwest of Guangdong Province on the coast of the South China Sea and holds the honorable title of Lychee Capital of China. The city and its surroundings produce more lychees than any other region in the world — over 400,000 tons annually — and the harvest in June transforms the city into a tropical fruit festival. The Genzi Forest is the largest lychee orchard in China: covering 80 square kilometers, it has over 100,000 lychee trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old. In May and June, the branches are heavy with red fruits, and visitors can harvest directly from the trees. The oldest trees are protected as living national treasures. The hot springs of Maoming are a second asset of the region: the hot springs in Gaozhou District reach temperatures of up to 98 °C and are among the hottest natural springs in China. The Yude Hot Spring Resort combines modern wellness facilities with a tropical garden atmosphere. Fangji Island (Fangji Dao), 50 kilometers off the coast, is a tropical island paradise with crystal-clear water, coral reefs, and white sandy beaches. The island is nicknamed the Little Maldives of South China and is accessible by speedboat. Diving, snorkeling, and seafood directly from the sea make Fangji a growing insider tip. The Guanshan Mountain Nature Park inland offers subtropical jungle with waterfalls, suspension bridges, and panoramic platforms: a green contrast to the coast, ideal for day hikes. Maoming's night markets are a culinary highlight: seafood, tropical fruits, and Cantonese specialties are served outdoors at long tables. The city comes alive in the evenings when the tropical heat subsides and the street stalls open.
