About Qujing
Qujing is the second largest city in Yunnan Province and is located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau at an altitude of about 1,800 meters. The city combines spectacular geological formations with one of the most colorful natural spectacles in China — the endless fields of rapeseed flowers that transform the plateau into a golden sea in spring. Luoping, 130 kilometers east of Qujing, becomes the golden city every February and March: Hundreds of thousands of hectares of rapeseed fields bloom simultaneously, covering the hills and plains with bright yellow. The conical karst hills rising from the sea of flowers create a surreal landscape that attracts photographers from all over China. The Niujie viewpoint offers the best perspective on the spiral terraces of gold. The Jiulong Waterfall (Nine-Dragons Waterfall) near Luoping is the largest waterfall complex in Yunnan: Ten cascades plunge over limestone terraces into turquoise pools. The largest fall measures 56 meters in height and 112 meters in width — often referred to as the most beautiful waterfall in Yunnan, especially impressive after the rainy season in summer. The Duoyi River Gorge south of Luoping is a dramatic karst gorge with 300-meter-high limestone walls through which a turquoise river meanders. Suspension bridges, hiking trails, and caves make the gorge an adventure off the usual tourist paths. The Zhujiang source area west of Qujing marks the origin of the Pearl River (Zhujiang), the third longest river in China. A park with a memorial stone and hiking trails marks the spot where a small stream begins, which flows 2,400 kilometers later as a mighty river into the South China Sea at Guangzhou. The plateau climate provides Qujing with spring-like temperatures year-round between 14 and 24 °C — the city is referred to as the Spring City of Yunnan.
