About Wuxi

Wuxi is located in Jiangsu Province on the shores of Taihu Lake, the third largest freshwater lake in China, and is one of the most picturesque cities in the Yangtze Delta. The name literally means "Without Tin" — according to legend, the once-rich tin deposits were already exhausted during the Han Dynasty. Taihu Lake, with its 2,338 square kilometers and 72 islands, is the heart of the region. Yuantouzhu Park (Turtle Head Peninsula) juts into the lake and offers a spectacular cherry blossom display in spring: Over 30,000 cherry trees transform the peninsula into a sea of pink blossoms — one of the most beautiful cherry blossom experiences outside Japan. The Lingshan Buddha (Lingshan Da Fo), at 88 meters, is one of the largest bronze statues in the world. The entire Lingshan complex includes the Brahma Palace with a spectacular light and water show depicting the birth of Buddha. The adjacent Nianhua Bay is a reconstructed water village in traditional Jiangnan style. The gardens of Wuxi, especially the Jichang Garden from the Ming Dynasty, are among the most beautiful classical gardens in southern China. Emperor Qianlong was so impressed that he had a copy built in the Summer Palace in Beijing. The Grand Canal, the longest artificial waterway system in the world (UNESCO World Heritage), flows through Wuxi and shapes the cityscape with historic bridges and canal-side architecture.
