Tel Aviv is the most modern and vibrant city in the Middle East — a metropolis that never sleeps, where Bauhaus architecture meets beach culture and a pulsating nightlife coexists with millennia-old history. The White City, with over 4,000 buildings in the International Style, is the largest collection of Bauhaus architecture in the world and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003, making Tel Aviv an architectural open-air museum. The promenade (Tayelet) stretches 14 kilometers along the Mediterranean coast and is the social center of the city: joggers, surfers, yoga practitioners, and beach volleyball players share the golden sand, while the white Bauhaus facades shine in the sun behind them. Rothschild Boulevard, lined with Bauhaus masterpieces, cafes, and startups, is the soul of Tel Aviv and has become a symbol of Israeli entrepreneurial culture. Jaffa (Yafo), the ancient port city at the southern end of Tel Aviv, is one of the oldest ports in the world: narrow alleys with art galleries, the flea market with its antique shops, the restored Ottoman clock tower, and the view from Abrasha Park over the Tel Aviv skyline make Jaffa the most romantic neighborhood in the city. In the harbor, fishing boats lie next to trendy restaurants. The Carmel Market (Shuk HaCarmel) is Tel Aviv's largest and most colorful market: spices, fresh fruits, halva in dozens of varieties, freshly squeezed juices, and the shouts of vendors create an atmosphere that overwhelms all the senses. In the evenings, the Florentin neighborhood becomes the center of the alternative scene with street art, craft beer bars, and live music.
