About Krasnojarsk

Krasnojarsk is the third largest city in Siberia and lies on the mighty Yenisei — the fifth longest river in the world. The city is depicted on the Russian 10-ruble note, and the motif — the chapel on Karaulnaja Hill above the Yenisei — is one of the most famous panoramas in Russia. The Stolby Nature Reserve (Russian for "Pillars") is Krasnojarsk's crown jewel: hundreds of bizarre rock pillars made of syenite rise up to 100 meters high from the dense taiga. The area is a mecca for climbers and hikers and is almost religiously revered by the locals. The Yenisei divides the city into two halves, connected by the elegant Kommunal Bridge. The left bank houses the historic old town with the Krasnojarsk Museum and the Pokrovsky Cathedral. On the right bank extends the more modern district with the Bobrowy Log ski area right in the city. Tatyscher Island in the Yenisei is an urban recreational area with a sandy beach in summer. In winter, the city transforms into a winter wonderland, and the Universiade 2019 brought top-notch winter sports infrastructure.
