About Andorra la Vella

Andorra la Vella is the highest capital in Europe (1,023 m) and the center of the small principality of Andorra, nestled between France and Spain in the Pyrenees. The dwarf state (468 km²) offers a unique mix of duty-free shopping, mountain sports, and the largest thermal spa in Southern Europe. The main street (Avinguda Meritxell) is a shopping mile: duty-free prices on electronics, perfume, alcohol, and fashion attract millions of visitors each year. Andorra does not impose VAT in the usual sense — the tax is only 4.5 percent. Caldea, the largest thermal spa in Southern Europe, is Andorra's architectural landmark: a futuristic glass pyramid with thermal pools, saunas, and spa areas, fed by natural hot springs. After a day of skiing in Grandvalira (Europe's largest ski resort in the Pyrenees with 210 km of slopes), Caldea is the perfect place to relax. The old town (Barri Antic) preserves the historical heart: The Casa de la Vall (1580), the oldest parliamentary building in Europe, the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, and the stone buildings tell of 700 years of independence. In summer, the Pyrenees offer hiking, mountain biking, and fishing in mountain lakes.
