Turks and Caicos is the Caribbean paradise in its purest form – an archipelago of 40 islands and cays with perhaps the most beautiful beach in the world. Grace Bay Beach on the main island of Providenciales has been voted the best beach in the world year after year, and anyone who has stood there immediately understands why: twelve kilometers of immaculate, powdery white sand, behind which lies water in impossible turquoise shades, so clear that you can see every grain of sand even at three meters deep. The offshore barrier reef, the third largest in the world, ensures calm, wave-free waters and spectacular snorkeling and diving opportunities. The islands are a British Overseas Territory and have consciously focused on upscale tourism – there are no large hotel complexes or party miles, but stylish resorts, excellent restaurants, and a relaxed elegance reminiscent of the best Maldives resorts. The uninhabited Half Moon Bay, accessible by kayak or boat, offers a crescent-shaped sandbank in the open sea that looks like something out of a dream. Grand Turk, the capital island, surprises with colonial architecture, wild donkeys in the streets, and the opportunity to observe humpback whales directly from the coast from January to April. There are no direct flights from Germany to Turks and Caicos. Travel is via Miami, New York, or London with a total travel time of 13 to 16 hours. German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. The time difference is minus 5 to 6 hours. The official currency is the US dollar, which simplifies handling for travelers. Turks and Caicos is not a budget destination – the islands are among the most expensive in the Caribbean – but for the price, you get Caribbean perfection that is unmatched.
