Is a holiday rental in Bonaire worth it?

A holiday apartment in Bonaire offers you the perfect combination of independence and comfort. Enjoy Impressive nature, First-class relaxation and experience Bonaire like a local – with your own retreat after an action-packed day.

Bonaire is the diving paradise of the Caribbean and an island that is consistently dedicated to protecting its unique underwater world. As part of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), this Dutch overseas territory is located off the coast of Venezuela and has been a massive marine protected area since 1979 – the Bonaire National Marine Park encompasses the entire island. What makes Bonaire so special: Over 80 marked dive sites are accessible directly from the shore, without a boat, without complicated logistics. Just put on your gear, enter the water, and dive into an underwater world that is among the best in the world.

The coral reefs off Bonaire are among the healthiest in the entire Caribbean, with a biodiversity that attracts divers from all over the world: sea turtles, seahorses, eagle rays, countless schools of fish, and intact coral gardens. Snorkelers also get their money's worth, as many of the best spots are only one to three meters deep. On land, Bonaire surprises with a desert-like, almost surreal landscape: The Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north offers sparse cactus forests, flamingo colonies, and secluded bays. At Lac Bay, one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in the Caribbean, flamingos float in the shallow salt pans that give the island its pink shimmer.

There are no direct flights from Germany to Bonaire. Travel is via Amsterdam Schiphol with KLM, which flies to Bonaire daily (flight time about 9.5 hours directly from Amsterdam). As a special municipality of the Netherlands, Bonaire is not considered foreign for EU citizens – no visa, no passport required, a national ID is sufficient. The currency is the US dollar. The time difference is minus 5 to 6 hours. Bonaire is not a place for party-goers or shopping fans – the island is quiet, natural, and ideal for divers, nature lovers, windsurfers, and anyone seeking Caribbean tranquility without the hustle and bustle.
