Is a holiday rental in Dominica worth it?

A holiday apartment in Dominica offers you the perfect combination of independence and comfort. Enjoy Impressive nature and experience Dominica like a local – with your own retreat after an action-packed day.

Dominica is the nature island of the Caribbean – a wild, volcanic diamond that has uncompromisingly chosen to reject mass tourism in favor of ecotourism and untouched nature. Here, there are no kilometers of sandy beaches, no cruise miles, and no all-inclusive hotel complexes, but rather bubbling volcanoes, boiling lakes, lush rainforests, and more rivers and waterfalls than on any other Caribbean island. Dominica is the Caribbean for adventurers, hikers, and nature lovers who are willing to forgo comfort in exchange for unforgettable experiences.

The highlight is the Boiling Lake, the second-largest boiling lake in the world, hidden in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The hike there is one of the most challenging and rewarding in the entire Caribbean: six to seven hours through steaming rainforest, over volcanic ridges, and through the surreal Valley of Desolation, where sulfur-yellow fumaroles hiss from the ground. At the end, you stand before a lake that is actually boiling – steam rises from the gray-green surface, and temperatures at the edge reach nearly 100 degrees.

There are no direct flights from Germany to Dominica. The journey is made via Antigua, Barbados, Guadeloupe, or Martinique with propeller planes to the small Douglas-Charles Airport. The total travel time is 14 to 18 hours. German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 21 days. The time difference is minus 5 to 6 hours. Dominica is not for beach vacationers, but everything for nature enthusiasts: hot springs in the middle of the rainforest, whale watching year-round (Dominica is one of the best places in the world for sperm whales), and an underwater world that Jacques Cousteau once called one of the best in the world.
