Climate Overview
Denmark is located between the North and Baltic Seas at the latitude of Schleswig-Holstein — accordingly, the climate is maritime: mild winters, cool summers, lots of wind, and plenty of rain. The temperature fluctuations between the seasons are moderate, but the wind is the determining factor, especially on the west coast.
| Region | Summer (Jun–Aug) | Winter (Dec–Feb) | Special Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copenhagen & Zealand | 17–23°C | 0 to 4°C | Mildest climate, sheltered Baltic Sea location |
| West Jutland (North Sea) | 15–20°C | 0 to 3°C | Windy, wild, dramatic weather changes |
| East Jutland & Funen | 16–22°C | 0 to 3°C | More sheltered locations, less wind |
| Bornholm | 17–22°C | 0 to 3°C | Most sunshine hours, microclimate |
Daylight varies significantly: In December, Copenhagen has only 7 hours of daylight, with the sun setting at 3:45 PM. In June, however, it hardly gets dark — the sun sets around 10:00 PM and rises again at 4:30 AM, with bright twilight in between. The white nights in June and July are magical.
