Design in Copenhagen
Danish design is a worldwide synonym for timeless elegance. Copenhagen is the epicenter — design is everywhere: in furniture stores, cafés, street architecture, even in the metro stations.
- Designmuseum Danmark — In the former Frederiks Hospital (1757), Denmark's most important design museum showcases the history of Danish and international design: Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Georg Jensen, Royal Copenhagen, Kaare Klint. A must-visit. Admission: 130 DKK.
- HAY House — The flagship store of the Danish design brand HAY on Østergade. Four floors full of furniture, accessories, and home inspiration — and everything is for sale.
- Illums Bolighus — The legendary design department store at Amagertorv. Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen, Holmegaard, Fritz Hansen — the entire elite of Danish design under one roof.
- Dansk Arkitektur Center (DAC/Blox) — The architecture center in the spectacular Blox building on the harbor shows exhibitions on architecture, design, and urban development.

Free City Christiania
The Free City Christiania (since 1971) is a self-governing community in the Christianshavn district — a former military area occupied by hippies and now home to an alternative community. Self-built houses, art studios, organic restaurants, the famous "Pusher Street" (cannabis sales, photography prohibited!), and a green, peaceful atmosphere. Opinions on Christiania are divided, but it remains a unique social experiment and one of Copenhagen's most visited attractions. Admission: free.
💡 Tipp
The Nationalmuseet is one of the best free museums in Europe — perfect for a rainy day. The Viking department with the Trundholm Sun Chariot and the runestones is outstanding.
