Dry Season & Rainy Season

Dry Season / Verano (November–April): Peak Season

The best travel time for most visitors. Clear skies, little rain, the volcanoes are visible without clouds, and the roads are passable. December to February is high season — especially around Christmas, New Year, and Semana Santa (Easter week, March/April) prices rise, and Antigua is fully booked. Semana Santa in Antigua is one of the most spectacular religious festivals in the world — huge processions over flower carpets made of sawdust.

Advantages: Sunny, clear, best views of volcanoes, dry hiking trails, relaxed jungle treks.
Disadvantages: Higher prices, more tourists, dusty roads in the lowlands, less green.

Rainy Season / Invierno (May–October): Low Season

The rainy season is better than its reputation. In most regions, it doesn't rain all day, but there are intense afternoon or evening showers (1–3 hours), after which it clears up again. Mornings are often sunny — the best time for activities. The landscape is greenest and lushest during the rainy season, waterfalls have more water, and there are significantly fewer tourists.

Advantages: Fewer tourists, lower prices, lush green landscape, lower temperatures.
Disadvantages: Afternoon rain, some roads (especially in Petén) are difficult to pass, hiking trails are slippery, volcanoes often shrouded in clouds. September and October are the wettest months — landslides and floods possible.

💡 Tipp

The ideal travel time for Guatemala is from November to February: Dry, pleasantly warm, the landscape is still green after the rainy season, and the Christmas celebrations are beautiful. For those who want to avoid crowds: March (after Carnival, before Semana Santa) or November (start of the season).
