Why Madagascar?

Madagascar is not an ordinary travel destination — it is a planet of its own. The fourth largest island in the world lies off the southeast coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean and separated from the Indian subcontinent 88 million years ago. Since then, evolution here has played its own game: 90% of all animal and plant species exist nowhere else on Earth.

  • Lemurs — Madagascar's emblem and one of the most fascinating primate groups in the world. Over 100 species, from the tiny mouse lemur (30 grams) to the Indri with its piercing song. Nowhere else can you observe these animals in the wild.
  • Baobabs — Six of the world's eight baobab species are endemic to Madagascar. The famous Allée des Baobabs near Morondava is one of Africa's most iconic landscapes — especially at sunset, an unforgettable sight.
  • Rainforests & Biodiversity — From the rainforests of the east coast to the dry forests of the west and the thorn forests of the south: Madagascar hosts an incredible variety of ecosystems. Chameleons of all sizes, hundreds of frog species, thousands of endemic orchids.
  • Tsingy Needle Karst — The Tsingy de Bemaraha (UNESCO World Heritage) is a surreal landscape of razor-sharp limestone needles, interspersed with gorges, caves, and suspension bridges. An adventure for those unafraid of heights.
  • Dream Beaches & Marine ReservesNosy Be, Île Sainte-Marie, and Ifaty offer powder-white sand, turquoise waters, intact coral reefs, and migrating humpback whales from July to September right off the coast.
  • Cultural Diversity — 18 ethnic groups with their own traditions, languages, and ceremonies. The mix of African, Asian, and Polynesian influences is unique worldwide. The Famadihana (turning of the bones ceremony) is one of the most extraordinary rituals in the world.
  • Adventure off the beaten path — Madagascar is not a country for package tourists. Here you will find rough roads, authentic encounters, and real adventure. Those who seek it will be rewarded like nowhere else.
  • Low Costs — Madagascar is a very affordable travel destination. Accommodations, food, and guides cost a fraction of comparable destinations. Your budget goes astonishingly far here.

Madagascar is not for those who expect perfect infrastructure. The roads are often catastrophic, transfers take time, and comfort has its limits. But that's exactly what makes the island so special: Those who embrace it experience a world like no other.
