About Flic en Flac

Flic en Flac is the sunset beach of Mauritius - an expansive coastal strip shaded by casuarinas on the west coast of the island, which offers a spectacular display of colors over the Indian Ocean every evening thanks to its westward orientation. The place has transformed from a quiet fishing village into a popular holiday resort that is more relaxed and affordable than the exclusive resorts in the north and east, yet offers equally beautiful beaches and excellent snorkeling. The beach of Flic en Flac stretches for several kilometers and features powdery white sand, crystal-clear water, and an offshore coral reef that protects the bay from the waves of the open ocean. Snorkeling directly from the beach is excellent - colorful coral gardens, parrotfish, surgeonfish, and occasionally even sea turtles can be observed in just a few meters of water. For divers, Flic en Flac is a top spot: the famous Cathedral dive, a gigantic underwater cave with light streaming in from above, is one of the best dive sites in the Indian Ocean. The Casela World of Adventures, a nature park in the hills behind Flic en Flac, offers not only exotic animals but also adventure activities such as ziplining, canyoning, and the unique opportunity to walk with lions. The Tamarin River, just a few kilometers to the south, is known for its dolphin populations - in the early morning, you can swim with spinner dolphins in the wild, an unforgettable experience. The nearby Black River Gorges National Park, the largest contiguous forest area on the island, offers hiking trails through dense tropical forest with endemic plants and birds. The Chamarel waterfall and the famous Seven Colored Earth are just a short drive away. Flic en Flac is therefore the perfect base to explore the west coast and the mountainous hinterland of Mauritius. From Germany, it takes about eleven hours to fly to Mauritius, and the transfer to Flic en Flac takes about 45 minutes from the airport. The west coast benefits from a slightly drier climate than the east coast, and the sunsets here are the most spectacular on the entire island. Holiday apartments and small hotels offer a much better value for money than the luxury resorts in the north.
