On the windy side of the peninsula, Le Morne has become the kitesurfing capital of Mauritius and one of the best kitesurfing spots in the world. The combination of consistent wind, shallow lagoon water, and the dramatic backdrop of the mountain makes this spot unique. The famous Underwater Waterfall is an optical phenomenon off the coast of Le Morne, best seen from the air. Currents drive sand and sediment over the edge of the coral reef into the depths, which from a bird's eye view looks like a massive waterfall underwater. Helicopter flights and seaplane tours offer the perfect view of this natural illusion, which is one of the most photographed motifs in Mauritius. Hiking up Le Morne Brabant is an unforgettable experience. The challenging ascent over rocky paths and through dense forest leads to a viewpoint that offers a 360-degree view over the lagoon, the reefs, and the open sea.
