About Jiangyin

Jiangyin is a prosperous industrial city on the southern bank of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province and is one of the economically strongest county-level cities in China. The city controls one of the narrowest points of the Yangtze and has therefore been a strategically significant crossing point for centuries — the Jiangyin Yangtze Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world with a span of 1,385 meters, connects the southern bank with the north. Jiangyin has a settlement history of over 5,000 years. The Ehu Old Town (Ehu Guzhen) is a well-preserved water village from the Ming and Qing Dynasties with traditional white houses, stone bridges, and quiet canals. It is considered the birthplace of the famous scholar Gu Xiancheng, who founded the Donglin Academy — one of the most influential schools of thought in the late Ming period. The Huangshan Fortress (Jiangyin Fortress) on the banks of the Yangtze was the site of one of the most heroic sieges in Chinese history: in 1645, the citizens of Jiangyin resisted the Manchu Qing army for 81 days. The monument and museum commemorate this episode. Jiangyin is one of the textile capitals of China and home to some of the largest private enterprises in the country. The Xingguosi Temple, founded in the Tang Dynasty, and Zhongshan Park overlooking the Yangtze offer tranquility amidst the bustling city.
