About Linyi

Linyi is located in southern Shandong and is one of the largest cities in the province by area. The region around Linyi, historically known as Yimeng, offers a surprisingly diverse landscape: from underground rivers and caves to extensive bamboo forests and the mist-covered peaks of the Yimeng Mountains. The Underground Fluorescent Cave (Yingguang Dong) near Yishui is one of the most spectacular caves in China: a 6-kilometer-long underground river can be navigated by boat, while colorfully illuminated stalactites and stalagmites create a surreal atmosphere. The nearby Underground Canyon Cave offers further impressive formations. Mount Mengshan, the highest peak of the Yimeng range at 1,156 meters, is a popular hiking and pilgrimage destination. Taoist temples, ancient pine forests, and clear mountain streams make the mountain a place of tranquility. The Mengshan Longevity Spring is said to possess special healing powers. The bamboo forest of Yinan spans thousands of hectares and is one of the largest bamboo plantations in northern China — unusual for a region so far north. Walks and bike rides through the green sea of bamboo poles provide a meditative experience. Linyi is also known as the largest wholesale market in China: The Linyi Wholesale Market includes over 100 specialized markets and attracts traders from all over Asia. For travelers, the city offers authentic insights into China's trading world away from the tourist paths.
