About Qingyuan

Qingyuan is located in the north of Guangdong Province, about 80 kilometers northwest of Guangzhou, and is known as the "Garden of Guangzhou" — a popular weekend getaway for the millions of residents of the Pearl River metropolitan area. The city is famous for its hot springs, dramatic karst landscapes, and some of the most exciting rafting routes in southern China. The hot springs of Qingyuan are among the best in all of Guangdong: The Xinqingguan hot spring and the Senlin hot springs offer natural mineral pools of varying temperatures, nestled in tropical gardens. Water temperatures range from 30 to over 70 °C. Yingde, the northern district of Qingyuan, is home to the famous Yingde black tea (Yingde Hong Cha), which is considered one of the three great black teas of China. The tea plantations on the misty hills can be visited, including tea tastings and picking experiences. The Feilai Temple (Feilai Si) on the north bank of the Bei River is a Buddhist temple over 1,500 years old, dramatically built against a cliff. According to legend, the temple is said to have "flown in," which gave it its name. The boat ride on the Bei River to the temple offers spectacular views of karst cliffs and tropical vegetation. White-water rafting on the Huangchuan River and in the Gulong Canyon is among the most popular activities: rapids through narrow gorges with up to 378 meters of elevation difference on the longest rafting route in Guangdong.
