About Yunfu
Yunfu is a large city in the west of Guangdong Province and is known as the Stone Capital of China. The region is one of the largest natural stone extraction areas in the country, and stone processing has shaped the economy and culture of the city for centuries. Marble, granite, and limestone from Yunfu are exported worldwide. The Panlong Cave (Winding Dragon Cave) is one of the most spectacular limestone caves in southern China. With a walkable length of over 500 meters, impressive stalagmites, stalactites, and underground rivers illuminated in colored light stretch out. The cave is nestled in a picturesque karst landscape. The hot sulfur springs of Xinxing (Liuzu Hot Springs) south of Yunfu are a popular recreational destination. The thermal water is rich in minerals and is said to have healing properties. Nearby is the Guön Temple (Guöning Si), revered as the place of activity of the Sixth Chan Patriarch Huineng — one of the holiest sites of Chan Buddhism (Zen Buddhism). The surrounding landscape offers green hills, bamboo forests, and the Xinxing River, which winds through idyllic valleys. The Cangcheng Lake is an artificial reservoir with clear water, surrounded by wooded mountains — ideal for hiking, boating, and picnicking away from the crowds.
