About Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the second largest city in the province of Sindh in Pakistan and lies on the eastern bank of the Indus River. The city was founded in 1768 by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro and was the capital of the Sindh Empire until 1843. Hyderabad is the cultural heart of the Sindhi civilization, combining a millennia-old history with vibrant market life. The Pakka Qila (Fort of Hyderabad) stands on an artificial hill overlooking the city and was built in the 18th century from fired bricks. From here, there is a wide view over the city and the Indus. Nearby are the Talpur Tombs — elaborately decorated mausoleums of the Talpur dynasty featuring intricate tile art and calligraphy. The Shahi Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest bazaars in Pakistan: kilometer-long alleys filled with Sindhi textiles, mirror work, lacquered armlets, gold jewelry, and spices. The famous Sindhi cap (Sindhi Topi) and Ajrak fabrics — hand-printed block-printed textiles with geometric patterns — are recognized as UNESCO cultural heritage. The Rani Bagh (Queens' Garden) is a green oasis with a zoo, botanical garden, and the Sindh Museum, which documents the 5,000-year history of the Indus civilization. The nearby archaeological site of Mohenjo-Daro (UNESCO World Heritage), one of the oldest cities in humanity, is a day trip from Hyderabad.
