About Dschidda

Dschidda (Jeddah) is Saudi Arabia's most cosmopolitan city — the historical gateway to Mecca and at the same time the most liberal metropolis of the kingdom. Located on the coast of the Red Sea, Dschidda combines a 2,500-year-old history with the launch of Saudi Vision 2030. Al-Balad, the historic old town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a labyrinth of coral stone tower houses with intricately carved wooden balconies (Rawasheen). These buildings, up to seven stories high, were constructed from coral stone and wood in the 19th century — a unique architecture found only along the Red Sea. The Corniche, a 30-kilometer-long waterfront promenade, is Dschidda's living room: families picnic, fishermen sell the catch of the day, and the King Fahd Fountain — the tallest fountain in the world (312 m) — shoots water higher than the Eiffel Tower. The Red Sea off Dschidda offers some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world with pristine coral reefs. Since Saudi Arabia opened up to tourists in 2019, Dschidda has experienced a boom: new restaurants, art galleries, and the Jeddah Season Festival with international concerts make the city a cultural hotspot of the Arabian Peninsula.
