About Dubai

Dubai is a city of superlatives that has transformed from a small fishing village into the most futuristic metropolis in the world within a few decades. The Burj Khalifa rises 828 meters into the sky — the tallest building on Earth — and the Dubai Fountain in front presents a monumental water-light show every evening on a 275-meter-long basin. The Palm Jumeirah, an artificial palm-shaped island, and the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, often referred to as a seven-star hotel, have become icons of modern urban planning. The Dubai Mall is the largest shopping center in the world with 1,200 stores, an aquarium, and an ice rink. However, Dubai offers much more than luxury and shopping: desert safaris with dune bashing, camel rides, and Bedouin dinners under the starry sky showcase another side of the emirate. The historic Al Fahidi district with its wind tower houses and the Abra boat traffic across the creek reminds us of Dubai's humble beginnings. The Gold Souk and the Spice Souk offer an oriental flair. Dubai Marina, with its impressive skyscraper skyline and beach promenades, is the most modern district. The desert city enjoys year-round sunshine, with November to March offering the most pleasant travel weather at around 25 degrees — in summer, temperatures soar above 45 degrees.

4 travel tips for Dubai

Insider knowledge that makes your holiday better.

The Dubai Metro is spotlessly clean, affordable, and connects all major points – Gold Class for an extra €2 is worth it.

Fridays (weekend) are crowded at many attractions – visiting during the week saves time and sometimes money.

The souks in Deira (Gold Souk, Spice Souk) are liveliest in the afternoon from 4 PM – and haggling is part of the experience!

Alcohol is only available in hotel restaurants and licensed bars – in supermarkets only in special liquor stores with a license.

Food & drink in Dubai

These specialties you must try!

Shawarma — Dubai's street food king: tender meat from a spit in flatbread with garlic sauce – from €1 at Al Mallah in Satwa.
Machboos — The Emirati national dish: spiced rice with lamb or chicken, rose water, and dried limes.
Luqaimat — Fried sweet dough balls with date syrup – a traditional Emirati dessert served at celebrations.
