Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, is the center of the sixth smallest state in the world and the smallest German-speaking country. The city on the Rhine, nestled between the Swiss mountains and the Austrian Vorarlberg, offers a surprising density of culture and Alpine panorama in a compact space. Vaduz Castle, perched high above the city, is the residence of the princely family of Liechtenstein — one of the richest royal families in Europe. The castle is not open to the public, but the ascent to the viewpoint offers panoramic views over the Rhine Valley to the Swiss Alps. The Liechtenstein Art Museum is an architectural highlight: a black concrete cube that houses the princely art collection — featuring works from Rubens to Warhol.
