About Gozo
Gozo, the little sister of Malta, is the quieter, greener, and more authentic of the two inhabited Maltese islands. Only 14 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide, Gozo offers a surprising density of history, nature, and culture in a small space — from Neolithic temples older than the pyramids to dramatic coastal landscapes and the best diving scene in the Mediterranean. The Ggantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and over 5,500 years old, are among the oldest freestanding structures in humanity — they were built around 1,000 years before the Egyptian pyramids. The megalithic stones, some weighing up to 50 tons, pose questions that remain unanswered to this day. The Citadel of Victoria (Rabat), the capital of Gozo, sits atop a hill in the center of the island and offers a 360-degree view over the entire island, the sea, and, on clear days, even Sicily. Within the fortress walls lie the baroque cathedral, whose ceiling painting creates the illusion of a dome where there is none (a brilliant trompe-l'œil illusion), as well as several museums and narrow streets. Gozo is a diver's paradise. The Inland Sea — a natural saltwater lake connected to the open sea by a rock tunnel — and the Blue Hole (the remnant of the collapsed Azure Window) offer world-class dives. The crystal-clear Mediterranean with visibility over 30 meters and a rich underwater world make the island one of the best diving destinations in Europe. The salt pans of Marsalforn, geometric basins carved into the rock where sea salt has been harvested since Roman times, provide one of the most photogenic sights on the island at sunset. Ramla Bay, Gozo's most beautiful beach, impresses with its strangely red-golden sand and an Odysseus cave (Calypso's Cave), where the hero of Greek mythology was allegedly held captive for seven years. Gozo has also established itself as a wellness destination. Spa resorts utilize the Mediterranean climate and local products such as sea salt and olive oil for their treatments.

Quad or rental car: Gozo is small enough for a day trip, but a rental car or quad provides the necessary flexibility for hidden coves.
Diving at the Blue Hole: The former Azure Window is now an underwater highlight. Also accessible for snorkelers and spectacular.
Pastizzi for breakfast: The pastry pockets with peas or ricotta are the Maltese breakfast — available everywhere for under €1.
