Saint George's is the capital of Grenada and is considered one of the most picturesque harbor towns in the Caribbean — colorful colonial houses cascade down a hill to a horseshoe-shaped natural harbor, framed by Fort George and tropical vegetation. The spice island of Grenada produces a third of the world's nutmeg supply, and the scent of spices permeates the city. Fort George, built in 1705 by the French, sits atop the peninsula and offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the harbor, the red tiled roofs, and the Caribbean Sea. The Carenage, the picturesque harbor promenade, is the heart of the city with restaurants, bars, and colorful fishing boats. Grand Anse Beach, just 10 minutes to the south, is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean: 3 km of white sand with turquoise blue water. The Underwater Sculpture Park in Moliniere Bay is a unique underwater museum with sunken sculptures that serve as artificial reefs. The spice plantations in the interior of the island offer tours of nutmeg, cocoa, cinnamon, and vanilla cultivation. The Grand Etang National Park, with its crater lake, rainforest, and green monkeys, is located 30 minutes from the city.
