Jungle Lodges & Jungle Experiences
★★★ Jungle Lodges — The Amazon Experience
The best way to experience the Amazon is a Jungle Lodge: comfortable accommodations in the middle of the rainforest, accessible by boat from Manaus (2–5 hours). The lodges offer multi-day packages (2–5 nights) with all activities, meals, and English-speaking guides included.
What to Expect
- Jungle Walks: With a guide through the primary rainforest, discovering medicinal plants and animals, learning survival techniques. Especially impressive in the rain.
- Canoe Trips: Glide through the flooded forests in dugout canoes (Igarapés). Silence, interrupted only by the song of birds and the splashing of water.
- Piranha Fishing: Yes, really. Using beef as bait, you catch the infamous piranhas — which you then grill and eat. Surprisingly tasty!
- Night Walks: The rainforest at night is a different world: giant spiders, glowing eyes of caimans, nocturnal frogs, the concert of cicadas.
- Caiman Spotting: Head out at night with a boat, using flashlights to search for the red eyes of caimans (spectacled caimans) in the water. The guide sometimes catches a small one to show — and then releases it.
- Pink River Dolphins: The Botos (Amazon river dolphins) are pink, up to 2.5 meters long, and a magical sight. Best seen at the meeting of the waters or on canoe trips.

💡 Tipp
Choose a lodge that is at least 3–4 hours by boat from Manaus. The further away, the wilder the jungle and the more animals you'll encounter. Lodges near Manaus (under 2h) offer a diluted experience — the forest there is already heavily influenced. Book at least 3 nights to truly feel the rhythm of the rainforest.
