★★★ Salto El Limón

The most famous waterfall in the Dominican Republic: a 50-meter free fall amidst tropical rainforest into a natural rock pool. The path to the waterfall is almost as spectacular as the destination — through dense jungle with giant ferns, cocoa tree plantations, orchids, and the song of tropical birds.

There are two options:

  • By Horse: The classic option. 45 minutes on a mule through the jungle, the last section on foot. Guided tour from the village of El Limón. 20–30 USD including guide and horse.
  • On Foot: 40–60 minutes hike, partly steep and slippery when it rains. Sturdy shoes needed! 5–10 USD entrance + guide (mandatory).

At the foot of the waterfall, you can swim in the natural pool — the water is cool (about 20°C) and refreshing. A swimming stop is a must!

Tip: Come in the morning (8–9 AM), and you'll almost have the waterfall to yourself. From 11 AM, tourist buses from Punta Cana and Las Terrenas arrive. Bring a rain jacket and swimwear.

💡 Tipp

If you ride a horse: Wear long pants and closed shoes. The saddles are basic, and the path is steep. If you have back problems, it's better to walk.
