Discovering the Riviera
The Albanian Riviera stretches over approximately 120 kilometers along the Ionian coast between Vlora in the north and Saranda in the south. It is Albania's tourist jewel and offers beaches that rival the best in the Mediterranean — at a fraction of the cost and without the crowds of Greece, Croatia, or Turkey.
The landscape is dramatic: The coast is steep and rugged, the Ceraunian Mountains plunge directly into the turquoise sea in places. Between the rock walls are hidden white pebble beaches, often only accessible by narrow paths or by boat — and that's precisely what makes it so appealing. The coastal road SH8 (also known as the "Albanian Riviera Road") winds over the Llogara Pass (1,027 m) and is one of the most spectacular coastal roads in Europe.
The Riviera has something for everyone: Ksamil for Caribbean island flair, Saranda as a lively coastal city, Himara for Greek-influenced village life, Dhermi for hidden coves, and Borsh for the longest beach in Albania. The best travel time is June–September, with July/August being the peak season with higher prices and more visitors.
