Stedelijk Museum

Amsterdam's museum for modern and contemporary art — from Mondrian and Malevich to Warhol and current installations. The building itself is a statement: a historic structure from 1895 with a futuristic extension (the "Bathtub", 2012). Admission: €22.50.

NEMO Science Museum

The green, ship-shaped building by Renzo Piano is spectacular from the outside. Inside: five floors of interactive science — perfect for families with children. On the roof: one of the best viewing terraces in Amsterdam (free access!). Admission: €17.50.

Moco Museum

Modern contemporary art in a villa on Museumplein: Banksy, KAWS, Yayoi Kusama, Daniel Arsham, and changing immersive exhibitions. Instagrammable and strong in content. Admission: €21.95.

Heineken Experience

The former Heineken brewery in De Pijp, converted into an interactive museum. Beer brewing process, history, marketing, and at the end two beers included. Entertaining, even if you're not a beer fan. Admission: €23 (cheaper online).

Museum het Rembrandthuis

The house where Rembrandt lived and worked from 1639 to 1658. Faithfully reconstructed with his workshop, his art chamber, and an impressive collection of his etchings. Live demonstrations of painting techniques. Admission: €17.50.

Tropenmuseum

In the Oost district: an ethnographic museum about the cultures of the tropics and subtropics. Fascinating collections from Indonesia, Suriname, the Caribbean, and Africa — also an exploration of Dutch colonial history. Admission: €16.
