Climate Overview
Despite its location on the equator, Ecuador has no uniform tropical climate. Four climate zones exist in close proximity, shaped by altitude, ocean currents, and topography:
| Region | Dry Season | Rainy Season | Temperatures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quito & Highlands | Jun–Sep | Oct–May (heaviest rain: Mar–Apr) | 10–22°C year-round |
| Galápagos | Jun–Nov (cool, dry) | Dec–May (warm, occasional rain) | 22–30°C |
| Amazon | Nov–Feb (less rain) | Mar–Jul (heaviest rain) | 24–32°C year-round |
| Coast | Jun–Nov | Dec–May | 25–32°C |
Important: In Ecuador, there are no classic seasons, only dry season (verano) and rainy season (invierno). The temperature remains relatively constant throughout the year — the key factor is altitude. For every 1,000 meters, the temperature drops by about 6°C. In Quito (2,850 m), there is "eternal spring," while in the coastal cities, it becomes tropically humid.
