Climate Overview
Florence is located in the Arno Valley, surrounded by hills that trap the heat in summer. The climate is sub-Mediterranean with hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters. Unlike coastal cities, there is little wind in Florence — in July and August, the heat can become oppressive.
| Month | Temperature | Rainy Days | Sunshine Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan–Feb | 2–10°C | 6–7 | 4–5h |
| Mar–Apr | 6–18°C | 7–8 | 5–7h |
| May–Jun | 12–28°C | 6–7 | 8–10h |
| Jul–Aug | 18–34°C | 3–4 | 10–11h |
| Sep–Oct | 14–26°C | 6–8 | 6–8h |
| Nov–Dec | 4–12°C | 8–9 | 3–5h |
Important: In July and August, temperatures regularly rise to 35–38°C. The Arno Valley acts like a cauldron — the heat accumulates, and sightseeing becomes a torture. The Uffizi and the Cathedral have air conditioning, but the paths to them do not.
