Arrival by Plane
Airport
La Aurora (GUA) in Guatemala City is the country's only international airport. There are no direct flights from Germany — you will always fly with at least one stop, typically via:
- Miami (American Airlines) — The most common connection. Flight time: about 14–16h total.
- Madrid (Iberia) — The only direct European connection to Guatemala City. About 12h + 2h. Often the cheapest option.
- Houston (United) — A good alternative, with similar flight times to Miami.
- Mexico City (Aeroméxico, Volaris) — Affordable if you book the flight to Mexico City separately.
- Panama City (Copa Airlines) — Copa flies from several European cities and has good connections to Guatemala.
Prices: Round trip from Germany: 500–900€ (depending on season and advance booking). In the off-season and with early booking: from 450€ possible. Flight time: 13–18h (depending on layover).
From the Airport to the City
La Aurora is located directly in Guatemala City (Zone 13). Taxi: 10–15€ to Zona Viva or Zone 10. Uber works in Guatemala City and is cheaper (5–10€). Many travelers head directly to Antigua: Shuttle from the airport about 10–15€ (1h), or taxi about 30–40€.
💡 Tipp
Most travelers don't spend time in Guatemala City — and that's perfectly fine. Book a shuttle directly from the airport to Antigua (pre-arrangement via hotel or shuttle service like Adrenalina Tours, Guinness Travel, Monja Blanca). In 1 hour, you'll be in the most beautiful city in the country.
