Overview of Districts
Havana is divided into distinct districts, each with its own character:
Habana Vieja (Old Town)
For whom: Culture lovers, history fans, photographers
UNESCO World Heritage Site with four magnificent plazas, colonial palaces, baroque churches, and crumbling facades. The historical heart of Havana — most of the attractions, museums, and restaurants are concentrated here.
Vedado & Malecón
For whom: Night owls, music fans, architecture enthusiasts
The more modern Havana of the 1940s and 50s: Art Deco skyscrapers, the legendary Hotel Nacional, the best music and club scene in the city, and the world-famous Malecón — Havana's lifeline by the sea.
Centro Habana
For whom: Adventurers, photographers, seekers of authenticity
The roughest, most authentic district: densely populated, loud, lively, and unfiltered. There are no restorations and hardly any tourists — just pure Cuban everyday life. Architecturally fascinating, but not for everyone.
Miramar & Playa
For whom: Those seeking peace, diplomats, luxury travelers
The green, spacious villa district west of Vedado. Embassies, expensive Paladares (private restaurants), the Tropicana nightclub, and the best hotels in the city.
