Diani Beach★★★
Diani Beach is Kenya's most beautiful beach — and one of the best in all of Africa. A 17-kilometer stretch of powdery white coral sand, lined with palm trees, with warm, turquoise water and a coral reef offshore that breaks the waves and makes swimming safe.
What Makes Diani Special
- The Sand: So white and fine that it squeaks underfoot. At low tide, you can wade hundreds of meters into the shallow water.
- Colobus Monkeys: Black-and-white Angola colobus monkeys live in the trees right by the beach — a bridge over the main road (Colobus Conservation) protects them from traffic
- Water Sports: Kite surfing (Galu Beach, June–September), snorkeling, diving, stand-up paddling, jet skiing
- Nightlife: 40 Thieves Beach Bar is legendary — cocktails with your feet in the sand under the starry sky
Accommodations
- Luxury: The Sands at Nomad (boutique, excellent), Leopard Beach Resort, Baobab Beach Resort
- Mid-range: Papillon Lagoon Reef, Diani Sea Resort, Flamboyant
- Budget: Diani Backpackers, Stilts Backpackers, numerous guesthouses
Getting There: Diani is located 30 km south of Mombasa, accessible via the Likoni Ferry + 30 min drive, or by direct flight from Nairobi (SafariLink, Ukunda Airstrip). The SGR train to Mombasa + transfer is the most affordable option.
💡 Tipp
The best time for Diani: January–March (hottest, driest weather, perfect sea). Kite surfers come June–September. Avoid April/May (heavy rainy season) — many hotels close.
