Balloon Ride Over the Mara★★★
The most exclusive experience in Kenya — and worth every cent. Before sunrise, you climb into the basket of a hot air balloon and glide silently over the endless savannah. Below you: lion prides, elephant herds, giraffes, and — during migration — an endless stream of wildebeest.
The ride lasts about 60–90 minutes and ends with a landing in the bush, where a champagne breakfast is served in the open air — white tablecloths, silver cutlery, scrambled eggs with bacon, while zebras graze in the distance.
The main providers start from the Keekorok area, the Mara Triangle, or the northern conservancies. Book through your lodge or directly with the providers — reserve weeks in advance during the high season!
Achtung
Not cheap: 450–550 USD per person. But for many, THE highlight of the entire Kenya trip. If you can, do it — the perspective from above on the savannah is unique.
