Big Five Safari★★★
The Masai Mara is one of the few places worldwide where you can see all the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — within a few days.
🦁 Lions
The Mara has one of the highest lion densities in Africa — an estimated 850–900 lions in various prides. The Marsh Pride and the Mara River Pride are famous, made world-renowned by BBC documentaries. Particularly good sightings: at the Mara River, in the Musiara Marsh, and in the Mara Triangle.
🐆 Leopards
Harder to find, but the Mara is one of the best places for it. Leopards often rest in trees along river courses (Luggas) during the day. Your guide knows their favorite spots.
🐘 Elephants
Large herds roam the Mara, especially in the dry season when they seek out the Mara River. The Mara elephants are accustomed to vehicles and often come very close.
🦏 Rhinos
Both black and white rhinos live in the Mara, but they are rare and guarded (anti-poaching units). The Mara Triangle is the best place for rhino sightings.
🐃 Buffalo
Large herds of several hundred animals — impressive and more dangerous than they appear. The easiest to find.
🐆 Bonus: Cheetahs
The Mara is Africa's best place for cheetah sightings. In the open savannah, you can watch them hunt — the fastest land animal in the world at up to 110 km/h. An addictive experience.
