Shoreditch & Hoxton
Shoreditch is London's creative epicenter — what Berlin-Mitte was in the 2000s. From a run-down industrial area in the East End, it has become a stronghold for street art, tech startups, rooftop bars, and independent design. Gentrification is in full swing, but the creative spirit still lives.
Street Art
Shoreditch has the best street art in London — perhaps even in Europe. Entire building facades are painted by international artists, and the works are constantly changing. The main spots:
- Rivington Street & Great Eastern Street: The main axes of street art — here you'll find works by Banksy successors, Stik, Ben Eine, and international artists.
- Brick Lane: Every surface is painted, pasted, or sprayed — garages, shutters, walls.
- Village Underground: The iconic tube carriages and containers on the roof of a cultural center in Holywell Lane — one of the most photographed motifs in London.
Nightlife
Shoreditch has London's densest concentration of bars and clubs: rooftop bars (Netil360, Queen of Hoxton), hidden cocktail bars (Callooh Callay, Happiness Forgets), live music venues (Cargo, XOYO), and late-night spots. On weekends, the area around Curtain Road and Kingsland Road is lively until the early hours.
💡 Tipp
A free street art walking tour (tip-based) through Shoreditch is the best way to get to know the area — the guides know the stories behind the works and show hidden pieces in backyards. Several operators start daily at Shoreditch High Street station.
