Southern Namibia

Southern Namibia is rugged, solitary, and of stark beauty. Here, you encounter no one for hours — only the endless expanse of the semi-desert, rugged mountains, and the mighty Fish River, which carved the second-largest canyon in the world.

The region between Windhoek and the Orange River (border with South Africa) is often skipped by travelers — a mistake, as here you find some of Namibia's most impressive landscapes:

  • Fish River Canyon — 160 km long, 27 km wide, 550 m deep. The Grand Canyon of Africa
  • Lüderitz & Kolmanskop — German colonial town on the Atlantic and the world's most famous ghost town
  • Ai-Ais Hot Springs — hot springs at the foot of the Fish River Canyon
  • Keetmanshoop & Quiver Tree Forest — iconic quiver trees at sunset

Namibia's coast stretches over 1,572 km and is one of the most inhospitable and fascinating coasts on earth — from the Skeleton Coast in the north to the Sperrgebiet desert in the south.
