Loch Lomond & The Trossachs
Just 30 minutes from Glasgow begins the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park — Scotland's first national park (2002) and the perfect combination of Highland scenery and easy accessibility.
Loch Lomond
The largest lake in Great Britain (by area) stretches over 39 km from the wide, island-rich south to the narrow, fjord-like north. Boat trips, kayaking, hiking, and the West Highland Way run along the shore. The village of Luss on the west bank is postcard-perfect.
The Trossachs
The "Highlands in miniature": rugged mountains, quiet lochs, and forests, but more compact and accessible than the larger Highlands. The Ben A'an (461 m) is a perfect half-day hike with a grand view over Loch Katrine. Many hiking and biking trails start from Aberfoyle or Callander.
