What does Hungary cost?

Hungary is 30–50% cheaper than Germany — and with a quality that is often equivalent or better. Especially food, drinks, and thermal baths are sensationally affordable. Hotels in Budapest have increased in recent years but are still cheaper than in Vienna or Prague. Outside of Budapest, prices drop significantly.

Important: Hungary uses the Forint (HUF), not the Euro. In Budapest, some restaurants and hotels accept Euros, but the exchange rate is poor. Always pay in Forint! The best option: card payment (Visa/Mastercard accepted everywhere) or cash at an ATM. Currency exchange offices at the airport and in the city center often have poor rates — Revolut, Wise, or a fee-free credit card are ideal.
