Hungary can be divided into four major travel regions, each with its own character:
Budapest
For whom: City travelers, culture fans, night owls, gourmets
The Danube metropolis is a total work of art: The Castle District on the Buda Hill, the Parliament building on the Pest shore, legendary thermal baths, a vibrant ruin bar scene, and the best food scene in the country. Budapest alone justifies a trip to Hungary.
Lake Balaton
For whom: Families, beach vacationers, wine lovers, cyclists
At 77 km long, Lake Balaton is an inland ocean. The northern shore attracts with vineyards, lavender fields, and charming Tihany, the southern shore with flat beaches and family-friendliness. Plus, the thermal town of Hévíz with the world's unique thermal lake.
Puszta & Eastern Hungary
For whom: Nature enthusiasts, wine connoisseurs, cultural travelers
The endless steppe landscape of Hortobágy National Park (UNESCO), the wine town of Eger with its mighty castle and the Valley of the Beautiful Women, the Tokaj wine region (UNESCO), and Debrecen, Hungary's second-largest city — here, authentic Hungary reveals itself.
Western Hungary & Thermal Springs
For whom: Pleasure travelers, history buffs, wellness seekers
The historic city of Pécs with its Ottoman monuments, Sopron on the Austrian border with Art Nouveau charm, the Villány wine region, and the thermal landscapes of Hévíz and Sárvár — Western Hungary combines culture, wine, and relaxation.
